ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Review

Rating: 8

What a difference a better keyboard makes. On paper the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE ($399) is nearly identical to its predecessor, the 1000H. It has the same attractive, high-gloss chassis, the same 10-inch, LED-backlit display, and the same 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard drive. However, the revamped keyboard, which finally puts the right Shift key where it belongs, makes a world of difference in terms of usability for touch typists. Plus, the 1000HE lasts over 7 hours on a charge and has a slightly faster processor than competing mini-notebooks. This is a very good netbook for an attractive price.

ASUS Eee PC 1000HE Review

Rating: 8

Asus basically invented the netbook, so it didn`t surprise us when the company`s latest Eee PC opened a can of whoop-ass on its competitors. From the outside, the 1000HE doesn`t look much different from other models in the diminutive Eee line. But it`s the machine`s heart — the brand new 1.66-GHz Atom N280 processor — that makes it faster, stronger, smarter than its opponents. Intel claims the silicon slab boosts computing power across the board, especially HD video playback — something that has been woefully horrid in past machines using Atom processors.

CNET Editors` Review (Asus Eee PC 1000HE)

Rating: 7.8

Asus practically invented the Netbook market, and the Eee PC 1000HE is an overdue overhaul that offers a new CPU and great battery life, but misses some of the competition`s bells and whistles. With the 10-inch Eee PC 1000HE, Asus has given the Eee PC line an overhaul, rolling out an improved keyboard and adding a newer version of Intel`s Atom processor.

INDUSTRY REVIEW

Asus Eee PC 1000HE Review

Rating: 8

If you`re after a netbook with the best possible battery life, the Eee PC 1000HE definitely has you covered and should be seriously considered. However, in terms of design and usability it lags behind some of its cheaper rivals and with new models bound to materialise soon, it doesn`t quite do enough to make it a must buy.

INDUSTRY REVIEW

Asus EEE PC 1000HE Review

Rating: 8.5

The streamlined and redesigned Asus Eee PC 1000HE takes no prisoners. While the previous Asus Eee PC 1000 offered a solid netbook, Acer`s Aspire One stole all the attention with its lean and incredibly affordable approach. With the latest incarnation of the Eee PC 1000, the "HE" might as well stand for "Holy Enhancement!" This model bears only a passing resemblance to last year`s Eee PC, and improves upon just about everything from the keyboard to the CPU. Better yet, in addition to losing some unsightly girth, Asus also trimmed the price to $400.
