Asus Eee PC 1008HA - 10in Netbook Review

Rating: 9

Asus` propensity for creating an endless stream of different netbooks is well documented and it has been both a blessing and a hindrance. On the one hand it has kept its burgeoning Eee PC brand in the limelight; on the other it has fostered within us an extreme cynicism at the very mention of a new netbook or Eee PC. It`s a fact not helped by the largely unchanging hardware, not that Asus` latest offering, the Eee PC 1008HA, improves matters any. As far as hardware goes it`s as generic as the next.

ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1008HA netbook review

Rating: 8

Seen as the creator of the netbook boom with the original Eee PC, ASUS has bombarded the market ever since. More recently, in a bid to offer enhanced battery life, models have been getting bigger in size. The Eee PC Seashell 1008HA sees ASUS go back to its wee roots, and is one of the most portable netbooks you can currently buy. Overall, the Eee PC Seashell 1008HA is a compelling proposition. Its only real fault is a lack of ports, but the quality, comfort and excellent mobility make it a great choice for those seeking a mid-range netbook.

Eee PC 1008HA Seashell Review

Rating: 8.9

Asus` Eee PC 1008HA Seashell (not to be confused with the Eee PC 1000HE) is a small, light and sexy device aimed at the fashion-conscious netbook fan who puts portability slightly above performance. The Eee PC 1008HA Seashell is a stunning netbook. It`s very comfortable to use, extremely light and portable, and is a good all-round performer. For us, the Eee PC 1000HE`s superior battery life makes it the better machine, but the Seashell holds its own in what is an increasingly competitive netbook market.

INDUSTRY REVIEW

Asus Eee PC 1008HA `Seashell` netbook

Rating: 8

When Fruit Messiah Steve Jobs pulled the MacBook Air one out of a jiffy bag during his Macworld 2008 Keynote, most of us were simply blown away by its `size 0` figure (something which can`t be said about most of today`s rather unhealthy-looking supermodels). But it wasn`t until Stevie stepped off the stage and we had time to get up close with the Air that we quickly realised that there were a number of quite glowing flaws. We`re still attracted to the Eee PC 1008HA and it’s definitely worth considering. Unfortunately though, its looks do come at a cost. Our current favourite in this market, Samsung’s brilliant NC10, is available for just over £300 (inc. VAT) and the Eee PC 1008HA is currently selling for closer to £370. That prevents us from giving the 1008HA a solid recommendation, but if you don’t mind paying over the odds for its svelte figure then the Eee PC 1008HA is a tempter.

Asus Seashell review: Eee PC 1008HA

Rating: 8.3

The arrival of yet another Asus netbook might not seem much of an event - after all, prospective purchasers can already befuddle themselves with the other 22 in the range - but its latest, the 1008HA, is a little bit special. Stunning design goes hand in hand with fine usability, but the non-replaceable battery and high price count against it.
