Asus Eee PC S101 Review
Things are always a bit schizophrenic with me, so it’s no surprise that when I was first presented with the new Eee PC from Asus that I was in two minds about it all. On the one hand, the Asus Eee PC S101 is the exactly what everyone should want from a netbook. It’s sleek, smooth, lightweight and well-made and this new model has a very executive feel to it. This is the type of thing we’re all secretly hoping our new owners might buy us all for working on. On the other hand though, it’s hard to deny the fact that Asus is exploiting the Eee brand name even more than ever. Things started off well with the Eee PC 701 and we’ve seen the Eee line make some great advances since then, all of which we appreciate – but part of us is still wishing it would just slow down a little bit. There are too many models; too many choices.

CNET Editors` Review (Asus Eee PC S101)
With the basic parameters of what makes a Netbook fairly set in stone, it`s becoming harder than ever for a new model to stand out from the crowd, as evidenced by largely identical recent Netbooks from Dell, Lenovo, and HP--though the HP Mini 1000`s impressively large keyboard was a plus. To this fray returns Asus, the company that arguably created the Netbook market with its Eee PC line, with a new take on the familiar Intel Atom/Windows XP combo. The Eee PC S101 takes the same components found in other Netbooks and dresses them up in a sharp new chassis that wouldn`t look out of place in a high-end ultraportable.

Asus Eee PC S101 Review
An executive netbook? We asked for one and for our sins Asus appears to have delivered one. Called the Eee PC S101, it is Asus` latest effort to create a new niche in netbook computing. It attempts to re-create the premium look and feel of an ultra-portable notebook, but with the processing power and price more familiar to netbooks. We only need to find out whether it can deliver the right balance of quality, features and price to make the "premium" netbook a worthwhile investment, so let`s get on with it. All told we like the S101 in the same way that we like most ultra-portables notebooks, because it`s sleek, stylish and accomplished. Battery life is very good, while the keyboard, touchpad and basic feature set are also excellent, even if you don`t get much more than other cheaper netbooks. But price, as we all know, is an emotive issue. If you like your netbooks dirt cheap and care little for how they look and how you look using them, then it`s obviously not for you. If, however, you`ve liked the idea of a netbook but find the current efforts a little unrefined, then the S101 is your only real choice. As such, even if it`s not an "everyman" machine like other netbooks, we reckon the S101 deserves a recommendation because it`s discernibly different from what else is available - something you can`t say that often.

Asus S101 review
Asus` new S101 mini laptop is a similar size to its original Eee PC and the models launched since, but rather than being aimed at the budget buyer, it`s intended for those who may prize its suave good looks and supreme portability. In common with the other netbooks doing the rounds, the Asus S101 is based around a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and 1GB of RAM, and runs Windows XP Home. This processor promises low power consumption and, by extension, long battery life.

Eee PC S101 Review
With the S101, the Eee PC has finally grown up. It`s been completely redesigned so it`s sexier, lighter, and more appealing to anyone who knows who Manolo Blahnik is. The £449 price tag means it`s more expensive and elitist than previous Eee netbooks, but Asus is pitching it as an alternative to comparatively pricey ultra-portables like the Sony Vaio TT series, or Toshiba Portege R500. Let`s see how it fares. The S101 is a stunning netbook -- the best we`ve seen to date. Its battery life isn`t quite as good as its some of its bedfellows, and it`s a little more expensive, but it`s the perfect choice if your mission is to make the Joneses look poor.
