Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Review
If it weren`t for its tendency to tip over, the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 would be a decent netbook. The device is further shackled by the inclusion of a slower Atom processor than its predecessor, and Vista Basic. Its retail price of AU$999 also puts it into the realm of full-sized laptops, which while a lot heavier will also have more features and faster processors. Unless you really need the screen real estate and the bigger hard drive we`d plump for the Mini 9 instead.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 (Windows Vista)
The Dell Inspiron Mini 12 certainly breaks new ground by offering a bigger screen than any other netbook without adding much weight, and you’ll get very good endurance with the six-cell battery. But while we applaud Dell’s efforts to make Vista easier to use with its flashy dock, the Mini 12 doesn’t have the right hardware to handle this OS. Plus, the 12-inch screen costs a premium; its price of $654 is about $150 more than the 10-inch Samsung NC10 ($499), which offers better performance, a bigger hard drive, and longer battery life. We suggest that buyers hold off until next month when Dell offers the Mini 12 with Windows XP or its customized Ubuntu Linux operating system.

Review: Dell Inspiron Mini 12
Overall, the Mini 12 seems best suited to the type of worker who may move around a lot, but usually works in an environment that has access to power, for instance a sales executive who visits a lot of client sites, or a manager who spends a lot of time at remote or branch offices. The large screen and comfortable keyboard mean that doing an entire day`s work won`t cause any undue strain. But the poor battery life inhibits use while travelling, and the price tag is approaching that of an entry-level notebook, which would offer added features such as an optical drive.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Review
Joining the Inspiron Mini 9 is the Dell Inspiron Mini 12: boasting a much larger display than its baby brother, it still manages to remain less than 1.1in thick and under 1.3kg in weight. If you are looking for a netbook but don`t want a cramped keypad or a small screen, the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 is for you. Dell`s Mini 12 is the first netbook that breaks the 10in screen barrier, while still managing to remain thin and light. The 1GB RAM limit is disappointing and some will scoff at a 12in notebook being dubbed a netbook, but the Mini 12 is reasonably priced and should appeal to plenty of users.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Review
Dell`s latest netbook blurs the line between these pint-sized portable PCs and their larger, more conventional cousins. The Inspiron Mini 12 has most of what we like about netbooks: a modest price tag ($749), light weight (1.2 kilograms) and most noticeably, a slim sylph-like profile that tapers from 2.5 centimetres to 1.8 centimetres at its thinnest.
