HP Mini 2140 Review
The $529 HP Mini 2140 (starting at $499) rises above the majority of the netbook competition by incorporating a well-designed keyboard, a durable design, and more than seven hours of battery life. Some may prefer the $499 Samsung NC10 (also a LAPTOP Editors’ Choice winner). It’s $30 less than the similarly configured HP Mini 2140, and its six-cell battery doesn’t bulge from the bottom of the chassis like the Mini 2140. But the extra cash buys a more durable case and more endurance.

HP Mini 2140 Review
HP have told ZDNet.com.au that the Mini 2140 is currently available in Australia with a value of AU$800. It retains the aluminium construction and big keyboard, but updates the components to an Intel Atom CPU, adding an accelerometer for the hard drive and a full ExpressCard/54 slot — a netbook first (Lenovo`s S10 has a smaller Express Card/34 slot). Thanks to those added features — and some concerns about the added weight aside — the Mini 2140 is currently our favourite premium priced netbook.

HP Mini 2140 Review
The layout is spacious and key positioning is spot on. Forget about having to hunt-and-peck or making do with dinky downsized keys shoehorned into places they shouldn`t be. On the other hand, it takes time getting used to the narrow trackpad, with the left and right mouse buttons either side of the touch-sensitive area rather than below it.

HP Mini 2140 Review
The HP Mini 2140 is a worthy upgrade especially if you are looking for a superb battery and a great keyboard. Specs wise, it is just the same as most other netbooks, so if you already have a 2nd generation netbook, you need not consider upgrading. The HP Mini 2140 is priced quite competitively and is sure to become a best seller considering the value it offers.

HP Mini 2140 Review
It`s nice design touches like the screen cover and keyboard, as well as hardware advantages like the ExpressCard slot and Bluetooth, that you must keep in mind when considering the HP`s $449 price: It`s about a hundred bucks more than you`ll pay for an otherwise comparably spec`d (1.6GHz Atom, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, 10.1-inch screen) rival from Acer, MSI, or another manufacturer at your local superstore. The Mini 2140 is one of the nicest netbooks we`ve seen. As is, we`d gladly pay a $50 premium for its excellent keyboard alone; whether we`d pay a $100 premium is a little less certain. It might depend on whether HP threw in the six-cell battery or the higher-resolution screen. Or, since we`re greedy, both.

HP Mini 2140 Review
HP has assembled a compelling package that could go toe-to-toe with the Asus N10Jc. But like Asus`s heavyweight netbook, the Mini 2140 in its premium configuration bears a price tag that approaches what you`d expect to find on a good all-purpose machine like the Sony VGN-NR485 ($800).

This is a GREAT sub-notebook!
I really like this product it`s small, light and looks slick, however I think some people expect too much from this laptop range, they`re sub notebooks people! I have a HP Mini-note (2133) and I think it`s great for the money I paid for it ($550US). In comparison with other sub-notebooks it`s specifications are excellent! I wanted a small machine, which it is. I wanted to be able to get on the net, which I can. I wanted to take my music with me and be able to play it, which again I can because of it`s 160GB hard disc! Also I wasn`t disappointed with battery life, I was able to type for long periods without the need to have the machine plugged in, internet usage was a little draining but I was still impressed with how long the machines battery lasted. Overall I am not disappointed with my purchase, I got what I expected and needed and for people who want raw processing power and all those little added extras like back-lit keyboard then you need to buy an actual fully featured, fully powered laptop! (e.g. fast processor, lots of RAM). This machine is great for what it is! :o)
