Eee PC 701 Review
Refreshingly innovative and scandalously cheap, Asus` Eee PC is a great little device for those with basic needs. A great keyboard makes working on it surprisingly easy, while media playback adds a little extra to the package. Internet browsing is also a key component and though the low resolution screen lets it down somewhat, at this price it would be churlish to penalise it too greatly.

Eee PC 701 Review
Asus is forging a new class of device with the Eee PC. Yes, you can get a laptop with a bigger screen and better specs for the same amount of money, but this machine wasn`t designed to go toe-to-toe with bargain-basement Windows laptops. It`s an excellent secondary computer for households with children, and it`s a very good primary computer for novice PC users who never had the time or patience to master an operating system.

Asus EeePC 701 Review
The performance was more than acceptable for the EeePC`s target market — in all, it took about 20 seconds to boot up, and while it`s difficult to benchmark the system versus a typical laptop, we can say that it was perfectly fine for its intended audience when running the included applications. ASUS claims three hours for battery life, and with light use the four-cell battery certainly met that expectation. While the fan occasionally got noisy, this was generally only after hitting it with something intense like the 3D game Tux Racer. The EeePC isn`t for everyone — in fact within about two seconds from picking it up you`ll know if it`s for you or not. For those it does appeal to, it`s a brilliant little thing that fills a much lamented gap.

ASUS Eee PC 701 Review
This revolutionary little machine is a great choice for kids at school, or travellers looking for a basic unit to update their blog, check e-mails or write their travel diary with. We wouldn`t recommend it as much to the elderly, simply due to the keyboard and screen size, but it is simple to use and does the job well. Overall, we were impressed by the design and functionality, as long as you buy it for the right purpose. It`s not for the power users, but it functions so well at this price that we`re beginning to wonder what we`re paying for in bigger notebooks. Linux users may also find their way into the terminal and find other uses for this machine. The Eee PC is built on an Asus modified Xandros (a Debian derivative) interface. Linux users who are inclined may find the Eee PC has more utility than what is immediately apparent to the rest of us.

Eee PC 701 Review
The UMPC world certainly has been buzzing as of late, but nothing has caused nearly as much fanfare as the Asus Eee PC. Positioned by some industry analysts as a response to the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) organization’s low-cost XO-1 notebook, the Asus Eee PC is both highly mobile and highly affordable, with basic configurations priced at $299 to $399 on the high end of its lineup. However, the Asus Eee PC is a breed apart in reality, offering a significantly more professional design compared to the XO-1’s toy-like appearance that is squarely targeted as a starter PC for children.
